The Summit Metro Crash Response Team is investigating a crash that occurred at approximately 8:46 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024. The accident occurred just east of Edgewood Drive in Kent, Ohio, after a Chevrolet Malibu struck the back of a parked Spectrum truck while an employee was gathering equipment.
William A. Williams, 55, of Kent, was declared dead at the scene as a result of the crash. William was an unrestrained passenger in the Malibu.
Following the accident, the Spectrum employee, a 33-year-old Akron man, was taken to Summa Health System’s Akron Campus, and the driver of the Malibu, a 50-year-old Kent man, unidentified at this time, was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital. Both suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation. According to Kent Police Lt. Mike Lewis, speeding and alcohol are believed to be factors. It is not clear what caused the accident at this time.
